Wondering out loud

Mampu ke aku habiskan terjemahan 3 bab ni dalam masa 2 minggu akan datang nih?

Jawapan: Tak boleh dohhhhhhhh. 86 muka surat kot. Dengan kelajuan aku bekerja sekarang ni, 5 bulan pun belum tentu siap. Haha. Tapi aku target aku kena habiskan jugak dalam bulan September ni. Damn you, PS2.

Ini la masalah aku. Aku tak suka open deadline. Cuba bagi deadline yang betul2 kat aku, mesti aku gigih buat kerja. Macam dulu aku dapat peluang buat editing buku 170 m/s dalam masa 10 hari. 10 hari tu aku fokus gila buat kerja. Buat assignment undergrad dulu pun tak sefokus macam tu kot.

Fokus lah sangat, lepas aku hantar editing tu sebulan lebih aku depressed.

Tapi editing dengan translation dua perkara berbeza.

Haih apasal la orang putih ni suka tulis ayat panjang-panjanggggggg. Banyak betul koma, kata hubung, kata pemeri, semua dalam satu ayat. Satu ayat sampai 7 baris! Apa yang dia nak cuba sampaikan aku pun naik pening. Terus letak buku bukak PS2 pergi race. Tenang jiwa aku.

Kalau macam ni punya perangai, sampai bila aku takkan jadi penterjemah freelancer yang berjaya. Hu hu hu~

Event 3 - International Translation Conference

This will be the last of the scheduled-entry series. Tak larat dowh nak tulis.

The next day after I arrived from Pangkor, I packed my bags and off I went to Parkroyal Penang for the 12th International Conference on Translation. I am one of the committee members so we had to be there one day earlier, on Monday 17th August 2009 to prepare for the event itself. The student committee members were given apartments at Sri Sayang, directly in front of Rasa Sayang hotel. Wouldn't it be nice if we stayed at Rasa Sayang? :P Beranganlah kau, berangan.

However, on the second and third night of the conference, I crashed Kak Ili's room in Parkroyal. Tenkiu akak kerana mengoffer! Merasala aku nak tido kat Parkroyal ngahahaha. Supposedly Kazet pun datang for the conference, tapi tak boleh atas sebab2 yang membuatkan aku dengan Kak Ili terus rasa cuak bila dengar perkhabaran tersebut lantas minum air banyak2. Hehe. Kazet is fine now. :D We are fine, too, Alhamdulillah.

I was grateful for given a chance to participate in this conference as I get to meet a lot of big names in the translation field. And also I get to see the brother of a singer, who looks exactly like his brother, and whom I called The Hot One at the conference. Haha. We have Nyonya Mansur, The Hot One, Abang Askar yang Hot (weh ini gila hot dah la dalam outfit askar nyumnyum tapi dia dah checkout hotel on the first day. huhu) and Jejaka Hensem nombor 1 (nickname ni dia bagi sendiri, saya terkedu 5 saat). But the most important thing, dapat exposure lah of course. Insyaallah nak menyendeng lagi dalam PPA yang akan datang hahaha.

I got to whisper interpret one of the papers to a group of Chinese presenters from Beijing. I hope they understood my interpretation sebab aku gelabah dah la tak prepare for the interpreting, presenter tu pulak cakap laju nak mampos. Wuu. Wish I had more chance to interpret at the conference. :(

All in all, I think the 2-year preparation we did for the conference is well worth it. The conference was a successful event, we had 17 countries participating in the event, with over 100+ papers presented.

Melati, Dr. Monique Zaini-Lajoubert, Mr Steven Dodd, Kema and me! Dr Monique speaks perfect Malay and Mr Steven Dodd speaks French and Spanish perfectly. Most of the big names in translation field can speak at least 3 languages fluently. Ai jeles ok!

So all in all, I gained a lot of experience, and dead tired by the end of it all. Haha. Selamat berpuasa!

Event 2 - Pangkor

After the graduation, I went to Pangkor on the Saturday, 15th August 2009 with Kazet, Sarapi, Jali, Kak Ili, Kak Ilya, Heli, Husen and Fik. At first I kept on changing my answer from yes to no to yes to no and yes again and then no. I wanted to go but it was rainy season and being me with a high imagination of course I imagined the worst, hence the ever changing answer huhu. But at last I said yes, and pray all the way from Penang-Pangkor that nothing will happen. Ye saya gelabah begitu.

Jali organised the whole two-day trip, so I didn't even know where the hell we would sleep, what we will eat and what we will do. Mungkinkah kitorang akan berkhemah di tepi pantai dan pergi memancing untuk mendapatkan makanan? This is so not me, I need to know everything beforehand and yet I couldn't be bothered to ask him about the activities. Perasan adventerous lah tu.

Turns out we do have a hotel to live, place to eat and activities to do. The first night we went karaoke-ing at KTV. First time ok aku pergi tempat karaoke. Masa kat Kansai Kokusai Centre tu memang ada bilik karaoke, tapi ini first time aku masuk tempat karaoke yang memang tempat karaoke. Haha. Jakun sebentar. So nyanyi sampai pancit. Eh tapi sebelum tu pergi mandi laut. Tapi aku tak mandi laut sebab malas maka aku jadi tukang jaga beg. Lepas karaoke tu balik tidur.

The next morning we went jalan-jalan tanpa arah tujuan sebenar. Pusing island sejam je kot dah sampai ke checkpoint A semula. Lepas tu pegi Kota Belanda. Lepas tuuuuuuuuuu pergi snorkelling at Pulau Giam! My first time ever ok. Aku dah la tak reti berenang, lepas tu masa terjun dalam air terus kejung tenggelam tenggelam semua padahal ada je life jacket. I just grabbed anyone nearby, man or woman. Dulik hape asal aku tak lemas dalam laut sudah huhuhu. But once I got the hang of it I found out it was a very fun activity! Next time nak pergi snorkelling lagi. :D Lepas tu balik Penang around 6PM. Fun!

Event 1 - Graduation

This will be a scheduled post because nowadays I am lazy to sit in front of my laptop and write up an entry. So, sementara aku tengah rajin ni baiklah aku taip banyak2 sekaligus dan bagi dia publish ikut time. :P

As you guys know, I've graduated last week's Thursday, 13th August 2009, at 3PM. Everything went by so fast. Out of the 2 hours of sitting in the hall, you only have less than 30 seconds of fame. Haha.

So yeah, by 5.30PM, I am a Bachelor of Arts graduate. =) I didn't take a lot of pictures using my camera because my hands were full. So I'm just waiting for Sarapi and Kazet to send me the pictures and everyone else to tag me in Facebook. Heh.

No this is not the graduation hall. Ini bilik kuliah tengah bersiap hehe.

Tired!

Everything has ended. EVERYTHING. Graduation, trip, conference, everything.

And it went on for a good 5 minutes. Well, with a conversation thrown in afterwards. But still, yg ko pegi suka hati masuk lane orang pastu stop sana apahal? Depan tu ada roundabout, pusing balik la pastu ko nak gaduh paksa kawan ko naik keta sampai tahun depan pun aku tak kesah. Kereta yang datang dari depan tu semua kena masuk sikit lane sebelah. Wtf. Yang kawan tu pun, naik je la! Nak jugak gaduh2 takyahh takyah. Hish.

In sociolinguistics, we call this 'code-switching'. (eh ke pembauran kod?)
